Playas Escondidas
It’s all about sustainability
Once farm land and a banana plantation, Playas Escondidas, Nosara is an ideal example of planned growth with sustainable practices to protect the environment, improve the adjoining mineral rich rain forests and support economic development that is in lock step with nature.
That means the three “R”s apply here more than ever: reduce, reuse and recycle. The footprint has been reduced to blend as inconspicuously and harmoniously as possible. Treated wastewater will be reused for irrigation of the common areas and green spaces during the dry season and underground utilities will be used to protect the natural inhabitants of this lush tropical paradise. Insulated power lines (tree wire) have been installed up to the development to minimize the cutting of trees and to protect the monkeys and other native inhabitants from electrical trauma associated with open power lines. Once the power and phone lines enter the development the will both be underground.
Re-forestation and re-vegetation recycling projects are underway. An on site nursery yields trees for the community and to assist in the pasture reforestation plan. The land areas which, have been pasture and farm lands since 1965, will be returned to its natural forest grandeur.
