By choosing “polyculture” over “monoculture,” Playas Escondidas, Nosara will become diversified ecologically. That means less waste and often, reduced fossil fuel consumption.
While steep contours make for a challenging planning process, that complexity brings a lot of drama to this area
of the community. Each building will be designed to flow
with the terrain, disturbing the natural landscape as little
as possible.
Adjacent to the coast, plans are underway for more than 2,000 linear feet of boardwalks and 1,600 linear feet of foot paths which will join the two coastal farms and the beaches of Playa Nosara creating a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that coexists peacefully with this ecologically sensitive environment.
Other green standards include energy efficiency, low maintenance, high air quality, water conservation, and resource-efficient building materials and systems. In addition, native plants and organic landscaping techniques will be used exclusively.
As a result of the employment of these standards, the entire Nosara area enjoys the cleanest water table in Costa Rica, clean ocean water with no dumping of gray or black water into the streams or beaches, has regularly scheduled refuse collection and offers excellent health and educational services for the townspeople.
